UIL shakes up 3A districts… again

Posted by Jay Tope on March 24, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Come this fall, the 3A districts in South Texas will be shaken up considerably.

The new changes, which were released last week, are as follows for basketball, cross-country, volleyball, softball, and baseball:

District 8-3A - Burnet, Llano and Liberty Hill stay in this district, and are joined by Austin Vandegrift and Leander Rouse.

District 29-3A - This district now has Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, Devine, Hondo, Lytle, and Pearsall. Bandera will move to 30-3A, which was an open district, Boerne High School (not to be confused with Boerne Champion), will NOT be in 29-3A as was originally planned.

District 30-3A - This previously open district will have Bandera, Boerne, Canyon Lake, Fredericksburg, Ingram Tom Moore, and Wimberley.

In football, 8-3A will be the same as it was in 2008-2008, with the addition of Leander Rouse. Boerne and Austin Vandegrift will play independent football schedules. 29-3A will be the same as 2008-2009; and 30-3A will be open.

Good luck to everyone on today’s TAKS test!

Everyone here at SAsports.com wishes the best for the freshman, sophomores, and juniors who are taking the TAKS test today. Think positively, eliminate distractions, and success will follow.

God bless you guys!

Burnet girls win Salado Tournament

Posted by Jay Tope on December 14, 2008 at 10:50 am

On Friday the 12th the Lady Dawgs began play in the Coach Smith Memorial Tournament at Salado. In Game 1 of pool play the Lady Dawgs defeated Taylor 54-42. In Game 2 Burnet defeated a very good host team in Salado 57-46. The Lady Dawgs then beat Shiner 44-13, winning their pool and setting up a showdown with Goldthwaite, who won their pool by going undefeated as well.

In the finals it was a tremendous game by both teams with the Lady Dawgs winning the Tournament Championship 50-49. It was a classic that went all the way down to the wire. The first half stayed very close as Burnet took a 2 point lead to the locker room. In the second half Goldthwaite went up by ten points towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Coming out of a time out McKinsey ‘Big Mac’ Cozart made a big play and got the Lady Dawgs back in the game. Burnet then went on a run which took them from 10 down to 7 up over the next six minutes on the clock. Goldthwaite came fighting back and with two minutes to play it was still up for grabs. But Burnet executed down the stretch and made some big free throws to get the win. Goldthwaite has all their players returning from their regional finals team from a year ago so it was a very good win for the Lady Dawgs.

Shay Graeter was named the tournament MVP and Manda Martin also joined Shay as a member on the all tournament team.

McKinsey Cozart, Kerstyn Towslee, and Mandi Lindley also had very good tournaments.

(Thanks to Coach Cavender for the information)
