Two South Texas businesses are joining a national coalition that is seeking to reduce the number of youth sports injuries.
SASports.com along with the San Antonio Orthopaedic Group have teamed up to make South Texas aware of the STOP (Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention) Sports Injuries campaign. You can read more about this great program at STOPsportsinjuries.org.
In 2007, STOP Sports Injuries was formed by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. It provides information on how to reduce injuries as well as info on how playing safe and smart can help extend a child’s athletic career, and make it more enjoyable.
Youth sports injuries continue to grow. Almost 30 million children and adolescents participate in youth sports, with close to 3.5 million children under the age of 14 receiving medical treatment for sports injuries per year. Half of these injuries can be prevented.
The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group and SASports.com have made it their goal to reach as many parents, students, coaches, booster clubs, and athletic directors with effective tips on how to keep young athletes safe.

The Lady Eagles led 23-21 in the first set, only to fall 25-23 to the Longhorns. And the excitement continued from there, as the match went the full five sets. With Eagle Pass trailing 7-3 in the fifth, they gathered themselves for a 15-10 win. The victory puts the Lady Eagles in the 29-5A lead at 3-0.
The winner was Jackie Byrne, and she joins Holmes High School alumnus Vincent Lee as our 2010 winners of 'Whataburger for a Year'.
Also, a big shout-out to Jacob, who will be our new Eagle Pass High School student writer on our SAsports.com EPHS page; we look forward to hearing from him soon!
