Baseball Playoffs: Steele earns first playoff, series win

Matt Fry leads Knights to 11-1 victory over Kennedy Matt Fry singled, homered, and threw out a runner at the plate, while Tyler Glasz threw a two-hitter as the Steele Knights defeated the Kennedy Rockets 11-1 in five innings Thursday night at Steele High School. The game was a one-game series, advancing Steele to the area round. Steele, enjoying their second playoff berth in baseball, earned their first victory Thursday. The Knights were swept by Cedar Park Vista Ridge in the first round in 2008.

Baseball: Kennedy 16, Lanier 1 (6 inn.)

The Lanier Voks baseball team did all they could to hang close with the Kennedy Rockets Tuesday afternoon.

But the playoff-bound Rockets broke through with two big innings enroute to a 16-1 win over Lanier. Kennedy improves to 10-2 in 28-4A district play with the victory.

Softball: Burbank 12, Kennedy 1

The Burbank Bulldogs scored nine runs in the first two innings, and pitcher Stephanie Contreras provided steady leadership on the mound in their five-inning 12-1 victory over Kennedy Friday night.

Burbank has already clinched a playoff spot in District 28-4A.
