Buttons rally from three deficits, lose in 9th to El Paso Cathedral

The Central Catholic Buttons rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

They rallied from a 9-4 deficit.

They rallied from a 10-9 deficit.

But 13-10 provided to be more than they could overcome in their first round playoff loss to the El Paso Cathedral Fighting Irish Saturday morning at Shoven-Vehle Field at Kahlig Park.

One out from defeat, Central Catholic rallies to 4-2 victory over St. Anthony in eight innings

St. Anthony’s Tyler Ritchie pitched a terrific ball game. Most observers would agree he deserved to win.

And he came awfully close, pitching with a 2-1 lead and the bases empty with two out in the top of the 7th.

Then his pitch hit Central Catholic’s Rene Vargas, and pinch hitter Tim Burns doubled over the center fielder’s head to score Vargas and tie the game. The Buttons then pitched out of a runner-at-third-nobody-out jam in the bottom of the 7th and scored two in the eighth to earn a 4-2 victory over the St. Anthony Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon at Sanchez-Spencer Field.

Antonian overcomes Central Catholic PDF Print Email

Big third quarter keys Apaches’ 66-63 victory

Jonathan Holmes kept Antonian from getting blown out in the first half by Central Catholic. Eric Garza led their third quarter comeback. Then Holmes took over again to make sure it stuck.

It added up to a 66-63 Apache victory over the Central Catholic Buttons Wednesday night before a large, boisterous crowd at the Paul Taylor Field House.
