Boerne Champion overcame five deficits before a John Free touchdown and a Kyle Bullard extra point produced a 51-50 overtime victory over the Brandeis Broncos Thursday night at Farris Stadium.

Free completed 16 of 25 passes for 223 yards, two touchdowns, 2 two-point conversions, and an interception.   He also finished with 27 carries for 128 yards, five touchdowns, and a two-point conversion run which tied the score with 1:18 left in regulation.

Not that the word “regulation” fit this game at all.

The kickoff was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning warnings, then was delayed again for 22 minutes midway through the second quarter.  Thanks to the delays – it was 9:15 before the game was halfway through the second quarter – the halftime break was reduced to two minutes.

The game contrasted Brandeis’ smash-mouth running game with Boerne Champion’s no-huddle spread formations.

The Boerne community has lost two twin brother teenagers in a car accident that happened Monday in Kerrville. Two other teenagers in their car have also passed on.

Please pray for the families and their community at this time. They need your love and support now more than ever.

Friday night at Boerne Champion High School it was Parent/Senior Night for the Lady Chargers.

Here, Katie Smith is shown with her parents; She is the lone senior on the Boerne Champion softball team. Unfortunately for Smith and the rest of the Chargers, they would lose to the Clemens Lady Buffaloes last night 8-5.
